Team Apex athletes competed in the State Tumbling & Trampoline Competition on April 12th and 13th at The Plano Center.  The theme of this year’s meet was “Tuck Commander” and included life-size props of the men of the popular A&E reality show , Duck Dynasty.   The awards stage was decorated in camouflage and the medals had camouflage ribbons.

2014-04-21 Shelby 017 Shelby, a 10-year-old from Aubrey, is a new rising star on Team Apex. She was awarded the Level 5 All-Around State Championship. Although this is her second year on the team, she spent much of her first year recovering from a broken leg from an accident at home. But once the cast was off, she quickly demonstrated a talent for gymnastics. She won the Tumbling and Double Mini State Championships and placed 4th overall on Trampoline. Her high scores combined were 140.2 out of a possible 150 total and gave her the lead over all level 5 athletes of all ages and both genders. Her scores helped her and her teammates win Tumbling and Double Mini Team Awards as well. Shelby participated in Apex recreational classes for one year before joining Team Apex.
2014-04-15 2014 State Awards 061 Four additional athletes from Apex also took home championships. Travis, a 13-year-old from Denton, won the State Championship for Level 4 Tumbling and Level 6 Trampoline and Double Mini. This is his first year with Team Apex although he has been in recreational classes for a year and a half and has attended several Apex summer camps. His score on Double Mini helped win the Level 6 Double Mini Team Award.
North Texas State T&T Sarah, a 10-year-old from Pilot Point, is a first-year Team Apex competitor as well.  She won the State Championship for Level 4 Double Mini.  Sarah won 2nd place for her Level 4 Trampoline routine and 5th in Level 4 Tumbling.  Before competing, she attended recreational classes at Apex for a year and a half and has frequented summer camps at Apex.
2014-04-15 2014 State Awards 105 Sabella, 8, from Pilot Point,  is another second-year competitor with Team Apex.  She won the State Championship for Level 5 Double Mini with a score of 58.3 out of 60.0.  She placed 5th on Level 5 Trampoline and 10th for Level 5 Tumbling.  Her Double Mini score helped win the Level 5 Double Mini Team Award.  Before joining Team Apex, she participated in a year of recreational classes and Apex summer camps.
North Texas State T&T Julia, a 10-year-old from Pilot Point, won the championship for Level 5 Tumbling. Additionally, Julia placed 2nd on Level 4 Trampoline and 5th for Level 4 Double Mini. Her Tumbling score of 56.7 helped earn the Level 5 Tumbling Team Award. Prior to competing on the team, Julia attended recreational classes for a year and has participated in Apex summer camps.
North Texas State T&T Team Awards are given to the highest combined top 3 scores per team per level.  The Level 5 Double Mini 1st Place Team Award was earned by Sabella, Shelby, and Tracy for their combined scores.  Tracy, 11, from Aubrey,  is another second-year Team Apex athlete and competed at Nationals in 2013.  She placed 5th for Level 5 Double Mini and 10th for Level 5 Tumbling.  Tracy participated in recreational classes for one year and attended Apex summer camps.
North Texas State T&T The 3rd Place Level 6 Double Mini Team Award was earned by Melody, Travis, and Emily.  Melody, 11, of Tioga, is a 3rd year veteran of Team Apex and competed at Nationals in 2013.  She attended recreational classes at Apex for one month before deciding she wanted to compete.  She placed 4th on Level 6 Double Mini and 8th for Level 5 Tumbling.  Emily, 11, also of Tioga, is a 2-year veteran and attended recreational classes for one year before joining Team Apex.
North Texas State T&T 1st Place Level 5 Tumbling Award went to Shelby, Julia, and Paige for their combined scores.  Paige, 10, of Denton, has been a member of Team Apex for 2 years.  She placed 6th for Level 5 Tumbling, 8th for Level 7 Double Mini, and 10th for Level 6 Trampoline.  Paige participated in recreational classes for 2 months before joining the team.

Medals were awarded to all Top-10 overall finalists. Other team members who made the podium were:

Alexa, 3rd, lv. 4 double mini, 4th, lv. 4 tumbling, and 7th, lv. 4 trampoline

Team Apex athletes will travel to Lubbock on May 2nd-4th to compete in the Region 3 Championships. USAG Region 3 Tumbling & Trampoline consists of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas.
